Designed in honour of Remembrance Day, our Poppy placemats are a tribute to both tradition and craftsmanship. Each piece is handwoven in the town of Sandoná, Colombia, using fine Iraca palm — a material celebrated for its delicacy and strength.

At the base of the placemat, a wreath of poppies is delicately embroidered with dyed Iraca palm, creating a striking yet refined design. Symbolic and elegant, these placemats bring both meaning and beauty to the table — a timeless piece to be cherished year after year.

In support of this important cause, 10% of proceeds from every Poppy placemat will be donated to the Poppy Appeal.

On the mountainous Southwest region of Colombia, lies the market town of Sandoná, where weaving traditions have a rich history that spans many centuries. The town has become renowned for its skilled artisans who have mastered the art of weaving using the Iraca Palm, better known as Panama Hat straw.. This tradition has been passed down through generations of women, who gather in shared spaces to work together.

The intricate weaving technique requires great skill and precision, it results in a tight, flexible and durable weave that is used in the legendary Panana Hat, baskets and home decor items. Quiet luxury at its best, the Sandoná woven pieces are valued by many high end designers the world over.
