Discover White Clay: Ceramics from the potters of Ponedera

Nestled on the banks of the Magdalena River, you'll find the picturesque town of Ponedera. This charming countryside hamlet features dusty roads lined with quaint homes, where local potters mine the local white clay and carry out their craft from the comfort of their own homes. Traditionally, pottery-making was a skill passed down through generations, primarily practiced by the town's elders. However, the inception of the Arcillas de Puerto Alegre project brought about a transformation. This initiative aimed to revive the traditional art form by establishing educational programs and a commercial hub, enabling locals to rediscover this age-old craft. During our visit last December, we had the privilege of meeting with the talented artisans behind the creation of CasaLatina's ceviche bowls and Alegre Salad bowls.
During our visit, we were honored to connect with the talented artisans in Ponedera, who dedicatedly handcraft our Alegre range. This new generation of potters has wholeheartedly embraced their ancestral craft, shaping their livelihoods around the art of white clay pottery.
Together with the team at Arcillas de Puerto Alegre, they are revitalising their White Clay pottery tradition. Through a blend of contemporary designs inspired by traditional forms and innovative finishes, these artisans are crafting exquisite pieces that seamlessly complement any modern home.
