Changing Outcomes - The Story of Alicia
"The most significant shift has been how the women artisans have been able to express themselves through art. In the process, they’ve boosted their families’ and communities' economies. ", Alicia Guasorna

Alicia Guasorna, an artisan from theEmbera Katioindigenous community in Balboa, Risaralda, has seen firsthand how working with CasaLatina has improved the lives of artisan mothers and their families."Working with CasaLatina has improved the economy of many artisan mothers and their children. The earnings from this work have contributed to the educational development of the children, among many other things."
Through CasaLatina, Alicia was able to contribute to her daughter’s education, helping her graduate as a nurse. "I was able to pay for part of her university education with the work CasaLatina provided."CasaLatina also offered Alicia a microcredit to help with both her daughter’s graduation and her wedding, which took place on the same day.
Reflecting on the changes she’s witnessed, Alicia says, "The most significant shift has been how the women artisans have been able to express themselves through art. In the process, they’ve boosted their families’ and communities' economies."Beyond financial gains, Alicia also appreciates the new opportunities that have emerged for these artisans to showcase their work to broader markets. This exposure not only enhances their economic prosperity but also nurtures their confidence and independence, showcasing the strength and talent of women artisans, most of them coming from vulnerable backgrounds.
Alicia’s story is a testament to how we can create lasting change, empowering women and families, and nurturing the spirit of resilience in the face of adversity.
